WHILE SHE SLEPT

I always awoke early. I enjoyed the chance to see her peacefully sleeping, her blonde hair in disarray on her pillow. Her deep sleep breathing was music to my ears.

Through the decades, I never stopped longing for her to be close to me. Every time I saw her,I marveled at her beauty and told her this. She beamed with a smile.

I remember other men looking in her direction and thought I am the luckiest guy in the world.

When I called during the day to say hello, her greeting was always uplifting.

Arguments were rare and when they did occur did not last more than a few hours at most.

She was not only beautiful, but very intelligent,a disciplinarian not only with her kids, work, exercise routines, and maintaining family unity.
She cherished her friends.

Look, this is the way I remember her. Of course, not everything was rosie all the time, but by a significant margin most of the time.

My biggest regret, is not appreciating her more while she was with me. In my reflective time since she went away, I think about all those things that I should have and could have done for her.

Now that the fog is dissipating, a little, I really do believe she was my soul mate and that we will have an encounter again.
